Several sections of major motorways across the country were closed on Sunday due to dense fog and severely reduced visibility, according to the Motorway Police.
A spokesperson said the M-1 motorway from Peshawar to Rashakai was closed, while traffic was also suspended on the M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana. The M-4 motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Multan and the M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir were shut, along with the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway (M-11), due to poor visibility caused by fog.
The Motorway Police warned that lane violations in foggy conditions can lead to serious accidents and urged drivers to strictly follow lane discipline. Travelers were advised to plan journeys during daylight hours, as safer travel times in fog are considered to be between 10 am and 6 pm.
The spokesperson also issued safety guidelines for drivers, advising them to use fog lights, avoid overspeeding and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.
The Motorway Police appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and said motorists can contact the helpline 130 for guidance or assistance.
