No meetings to be allowed with Imran Khan after law violations: Federal Information Minister

3 min read

Federal Minister for Information, Atta Tarar, has said that following any violation of the law, there is zero possibility of anyone meeting former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He made the remarks while speaking in talk show of local TV.

Addressing governance and transparency issues, Tarar cited a Transparency International survey in which 66 percent of respondents reported that they had not paid bribes and valued merit and transparency in public dealings.

He said that Pakistan is moving from economic instability to sustainable growth, with reforms under the IMF and the country’s exit from the FATF grey list contributing to economic stability. Tarar added that the IMF has praised Pakistan’s reform structure and that recommendations in the Federal Board of Revenue have been completely eliminated.

Commenting on the sugar sector, Tarar rejected claims from 2019 during the PTI government about sugar shortages and export restrictions. He said the current government has implemented deregulation measures, conducted a crackdown on hoarding, and introduced QR codes on every sugar bag leaving mills to ensure traceability. He noted that these measures have reduced sugar prices and stabilized the market.

Regarding questions about the possibility of governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the minister said such a step could be considered only if provincial governance fails in law and order, counter-terrorism, or administrative management. He emphasized that any use of governor rule would have a clear justification.

On the topic of former PTI chairman Imran Khan’s meetings in Adiala Jail, Tarar reiterated that “after violating the law, there is no possibility of anyone meeting Imran Khan,” including family members, party leaders, or lawyers.
