Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated a series of development projects in Surjani Town’s Union Councils 38 and 39, including the restoration of the sewerage system and installation of paver blocks.
Speaking at an inauguration ceremony in the Manghopir area of District West, Wahab said the projects demonstrate the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to delivering on its promises. He noted that sewerage lines in the two UCs have been upgraded, repaired and fully restored.
The mayor said the administration prioritised completing work on the ground rather than making public claims. He added that the previously disrupted sewerage system along major roads had also been fixed.
Wahab recalled that Yusuf Goth faced severe damage during the 2020 rains, prompting visits by PPP leadership, including the Sindh chief minister. He said restoration efforts carried out since then ensured that the locality remained safe during the recent monsoon season.
He further stated that the Karachi Municipal Corporation has started converting its pumping stations to solar power. Two stations in Malir and Gadap have already been solarised, providing water to 54 villages. Work is also underway on the LSR pumping station to address water shortages in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Wahab said he is spending around Rs 24 crore monthly on KMC bills and has allocated funds in the budget for improvements in cemeteries. He added that new manhole covers are being produced according to city requirements.
