Punjab govt intensifies emergency measures to improve air quality in Lahore

1 min read

The Punjab government has stepped up emergency measures to tackle rising air pollution in Lahore as dropping temperatures and weak winds contribute to worsening conditions.

Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said the government has tasked the Anti-Smog Field Force with immediate action, deploying additional personnel to enforce pollution control measures.

The Environment Department has increased inspections in industrial zones late into the night, leading to the sealing of several factories emitting excessive smoke.

Maryam Aurangzeb added that a coordination cell has been activated to reduce pollution flow from the northwestern industrial belt. The traffic police have also begun special anti-smog deployments during peak traffic hours to manage vehicular contributions to air pollution.

Officials emphasized that the measures aim to protect public health and improve air quality during the winter months when pollution levels typically spike.
