Pakistan’s leading javelin stars Arshad Nadeem and Mohammad Yasir Sultan are poised to headline the athletics contests at the upcoming National Games, with both athletes scheduled to compete in the javelin throw event on December 8, officials familiar with the preparations said.

According to team sources, Arshad who clinched gold at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh is expected to arrive in Karachi tomorrow alongside his coach, Sajjad Butt, ahead of the national-level competition. He is said to be in strong form and confident of delivering another standout performance.

Yasir Sultan, who earned a silver medal at the same Riyadh event, will also be in action. Both athletes represent WAPDA and are widely regarded as intense rivals, a dynamic that is expected to heighten interest in their National Games clash.

The opening ceremony of the Games will take place on December 6 at the National Stadium Karachi, where PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will formally inaugurate the multi-sport event, organisers confirmed.

Arshad is aiming to secure another gold medal for his department and is reportedly determined to put on a commanding performance when he enters the arena on the final day of the javelin contests.
