The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has seized 62 cartons of illegal cigarettes and sealed a cigarette factory in Mardan during a raid conducted by its Inland Revenue team.
According to FBR officials, the confiscated cigarettes were not taxed, prompting the closure of the factory and the registration of a case against its owners. The operation was carried out despite reports of political influence linked to the factory’s ownership. Local sources said the factory belongs to Senator Dilawar Khan, but the FBR acted independently of any political pressure.
FBR sources emphasized that the Prime Minister has directed strict action against factories producing illegal cigarettes, and no political considerations are being allowed to interfere with enforcement.
Responding to the raid, Senator Dilawar Khan told media that he was not in the village at the time and claimed to have no knowledge of the operation at his factory.
