Babar Azam breaks fielding records, surpasses Shahid Afridi in international catches

1 min read

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has added another milestone to his illustrious career by surpassing Shahid Afridi as one of Pakistan’s top catchers in international cricket.

Babar achieved the record during the final of the tri-nation T20 series against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Kusal Mendis. With three catches in the match, he now has 170 international catches, overtaking Afridi, who finished his career with 167.

Despite this achievement, Younis Khan remains Pakistan’s all-time leader with 281 catches, followed by Inzamam-ul-Haq with 194. Afridi now moves down to fourth place on the list.

In addition to his overall international record, Babar also set a new benchmark in T20 Internationals for Pakistan. With three catches in the Sri Lanka final, he reached 60 catches, surpassing Fakhar Zaman (57) and Shoaib Malik (50) to become Pakistan’s top T20 fielder.

Babar’s exceptional fielding performance, alongside his batting achievements, underscores his value as one of Pakistan cricket’s most complete players.
