Saba Qamar urges Pakistan to stand united for Children’s Rights

2 min read

On the occasion of World Children’s Day, actress and UNICEF Pakistan’s National Ambassador for Child Rights, Saba Qamar, called on the nation to raise awareness and protect the rights of children across the country.

In a video shared on social media, Qamar urged the public to “stand together” in support of children’s rights. She highlighted that every child has the right to education, a healthy environment, a safe life, and a voice in decisions affecting their future.

Qamar also cited alarming statistics, noting that nearly 19 million girls in Pakistan face child marriage, and over half of them experience pregnancy before the age of 18, putting both mother and child at serious risk. She encouraged citizens to show solidarity by “turning Pakistan blue,” the symbolic color for World Children’s Day.

UNICEF appointed Qamar as the first National Ambassador for Child Rights in Pakistan in 2024. Since then, she has actively advocated for children’s education, mental health, gender equality, prevention of child marriage, and protection against violence.
