Veteran Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has revealed that early in his career, his father forbade him from returning home because of the repeated beatings his characters faced on screen.
In a recent interview, Siddiqui said that films like “Sirfros” and “Munnabhai M.B.B.S.” often had him in violent or weak roles, which embarrassed his father. Villagers would also taunt him, saying his son always appears to get beaten in films.
Siddiqui explained that at the time, he was mostly offered minor roles such as thieves, pickpockets, or weak characters. Despite his struggle to land better roles, his father told him not to return home until he secured more meaningful parts. As a result, Siddiqui stayed away from his village for three years.
He added that his career turned around with the success of “Gangs of Wasseypur”. After the film’s acclaim, when he returned home, his father praised him for his performance, acknowledging that he had truly done good work.
