Jasprit Bumrah under ICC investigation for inappropriate comments on Temba Bavuma

2 min read

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is in trouble after making inappropriate comments about South African captain Temba Bavuma during a recent match, a video clip of which went viral on social media.

In the clip, Bumrah is seen giving advice on whether Bavuma should take a review after an LBW appeal was turned down. During the exchange, he reportedly made derogatory remarks about Bavuma’s height, which may violate Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The breach falls under a Level 1 offense, which can result in a formal reprimand, a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Bumrah was previously given one demerit point for a Level 1 Code of Conduct violation in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. According to ICC rules, accumulating four or more demerit points within 24 months converts them into suspension points, potentially resulting in a ban from one Test match or two limited-overs games.

The ICC is expected to review the incident and decide whether to formally charge the Indian bowler.
