A major extortion and impersonation case has surfaced in Rawalpindi, where fraudsters allegedly posed as government and intelligence officials to extract Rs 8 million from a Chinese-run call centre. Police have registered a case and begun investigations.
According to the FIR lodged at Chaklala Police Station by Areeba Rubab, a resident of Taxila, she works at a Chinese call centre in Rawalpindi along with her husband, Gao Kaizan. She reported that a man named Fawad Ahmed arrived at the call centre some weeks earlier, accompanied by unidentified individuals, and demanded Rs 2 million through threats and intimidation.
The complainant stated that they informed their employer, after which Rs 1.5 million was paid in cash and another Rs 500,000 was transferred to the suspects’ account.
A few days later, Fawad Ahmed told them he could arrange a meeting with a man he claimed was Brigadier Ali Jan Owais from an intelligence agency, assuring them that they would not face any harassment if they made monthly payments.
On April 8, Fawad allegedly took them to a location where a man introduced himself as Brigadier Ali Jan Owais. During the meeting, the impersonator demanded Rs 6 million in exchange for “protection” from any agency or department. However, after receiving the money, the suspects switched off their phones and disappeared.
The complainant said it then became clear that the men were fraudsters who had deceived them and taken a total of Rs 8 million. Police confirmed that the suspects extorted money through blackmail and threats. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
