The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the Pakistan cricket team for maintaining a slow over rate during the first One Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka, played on November 11 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
According to an ICC statement, Pakistan were found to be four overs short of the target after taking time allowances into consideration. As a result, the team has been fined 20% of their match fee for the offense.
Pakistan’s captain Shaheen Afridi has accepted the sanction, which was imposed by the ICC match referee in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct — relating to minimum over-rate offenses.
Despite the penalty, Pakistan had a successful outing in the opening match, defeating Sri Lanka by six runs to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
