It has been nine years since the passing of renowned Pakistani playback singer A. Nayyar, a celebrated voice of the country’s golden era of film music.
Born Arthur Nayyar on September 17, 1950, in the village of Ransonabad near Sahiwal, he began his film career in 1974 with the movie Bahisht. Over the years, he lent his voice to more than 4,000 film songs, enchanting audiences with his melodious voice.
A. Nayyar’s songs were picturized on iconic stars including Shahid, Nadeem, and Waheed Murad, and many of them remain popular with music lovers today. His song Dildara achieved massive popularity, breaking records in the process.
The singer was honored for his artistic contributions with five Nigar Awards, the Presidential Award for Best Playback Singing, and the Pride of Performance by the government of Pakistan.
A. Nayyar passed away on November 11, 2016, in Lahore following a heart attack. Fans and music enthusiasts continue to remember his contributions to Pakistani cinema and music.
