Senior actress Naima Khan has revealed that the late renowned writer and playwright Ashfaq Ahmed was her maternal uncle. She shared the details during a recent appearance on a private TV show hosted by Wasi Shah.
Naima Khan explained that Ashfaq Ahmed was her mother’s cousin and that she spent part of her childhood in his care. She recounted that when she asked him for a recommendation to enter showbiz, he refused, advising her instead to establish her own identity first. “Even if I sent you, people would accept anything from me, but then you would be labelled as my niece. Build your own recognition first,” she said.
The actress also shared a personal memory from shortly before Ashfaq Ahmed’s death, when he wished to host a simple gathering with raw lassi and mangoes at his home. Naima, who was in England with her children at the time, expressed regret that she could not fulfill his wish.
Naima Khan further noted that Ashfaq Ahmed rarely attended weddings, believing his presence drew attention away from the event, though he made a special appearance at her wedding anniversary.
