Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has received a fresh consignment of advanced weaponry and surveillance equipment modelled on modern US-style long-range targeting systems, aimed at strengthening counter-terrorism capacity in the province.
At a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Peshawar, Inspector General of Police Dr Zulfiqar Hameed handed over the equipment to district units. The new gear includes thermal sights, high-powered binoculars, heavy machine guns, and anti-drone guns.
According to the KP Police spokesperson, the force has been provided 147 high-precision binoculars, 363 thermal sights, 10 heavy machine guns, and 4 anti-drone guns. The anti-drone systems have been allocated to police units in Waziristan, Bannu and Bajaur, where security challenges remain more acute.
IGP Hameed said the initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance police preparedness through technology-driven policing. The thermal sights are capable of identifying vehicles from a distance of up to four kilometres, which, he said, will significantly improve night-time surveillance.
He added that upgrading police hardware is essential to counter evolving militant threats.
“We are strengthening the police with modern technology. These tools will enhance operational capability, especially during night operations. In the fight against terrorism, the KP Police is being made more robust.”
