Miss Universe event in Thailand turns chaotic after contestants stage walkout

2 min read

The Miss Universe pageant in Thailand was hit by controversy after multiple contestants walked out of an event in protest over the alleged mistreatment of Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.

According to international media reports, tensions flared during one of the Miss Universe Thailand events when the executive director publicly called Miss Mexico a “dummy.” When Bosch attempted to clarify the remark, the executive director reportedly summoned security to silence her and remove her from the venue.

Responding firmly, Fatima Bosch said the director had no understanding of how to respect a woman, especially one representing her country on a global stage. Her stance prompted immediate support from other contestants, including the reigning Miss Universe, Victoria Keresztély Helvig, who stood up for Bosch.

Contestants from various countries then collectively walked out of the event in protest against the behaviour of executive director Nawat Itsaragrisil.

Videos of the confrontation quickly went viral on social media, sparking global criticism and forcing Miss Universe President Raul Rocha Cantú to take notice of the situation.
