2 min read

The hearing of the controversial tweets case against Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha took place today before Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka.

Both Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha appeared in court. Samiullah Wazir submitted a power of attorney on behalf of Hadi Ali Chatha. During the proceedings, the court canceled the non-bailable arrest warrants previously issued against the two.

Iman Mazari requested time to appoint a lawyer, to which Judge Majoka instructed that the power of attorney be submitted by Saturday. Mazari also argued that the speed of the proceedings violated their rights, adding that they were being penalized for speaking the truth.

The judge responded that the charges had already been read three times in the presence of the lawyers. Hadi Ali Chatha requested the removal of the State Counsel, but Judge Majoka clarified that the court had not appointed the State Counsel and that the committee which appointed them had the authority to remove them. He asked both parties to submit their arguments regarding the State Counsel by Saturday.

The court adjourned the hearing and will continue the case on Saturday.
