The two-day Baniyan-ul-Marsous HEC Inter-University Women’s Table Tennis Championship concluded in Muzaffarabad, celebrating women’s sportsmanship and academic athletic talent from across Pakistan.
Organised jointly by the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistan Army and the Higher Education Commission, the tournament featured female players from 18 universities nationwide.
In a thrilling final match, Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, defeated Punjab University to secure the championship title. The closing ceremony featured a march-past of participating athletes, who carried their university banners while waving the national flag of Pakistan and the flag of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Outstanding performers received medals, while trophies were awarded to the champion and runner-up teams.
Participants expressed pride in representing their institutions in Muzaffarabad, stating that bringing female students from various Pakistani universities together in AJK symbolised unity and solidarity. They said the event reflected that the youth of Kashmir and Pakistan stand together with mutual support and shared identity.
The student-athletes appreciated the secure and encouraging environment provided throughout the tournament, saying such opportunities boost confidence and motivate more women to take part in sports. They urged authorities to hold similar nationwide events to help female players further develop their skills and pursue sports professionally.
