ANP-backed lawyers sweep KP Bar Council elections

Unofficial results of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council elections for 28 seats have indicated a clear lead for the ANP-affiliated Malgari Wakeelan group, which has secured 13 seats across the province.

Candidates from Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Karak also won under the Malgari Wakeelan banner, consolidating the group’s position in multiple districts.

In Peshawar, where seven seats were contested, Malgari Wakeelan clinched four seats, the Insaf Lawyers Forum won two, while one seat went to an independent candidate.

According to the unofficial tally, Malgari Wakeelan’s Hazrat Hayat secured the highest number of votes with 926, followed by Fazal Wahid with 893 votes. Insaf Lawyers Forum’s Sofia Noreen obtained 880 votes and Ali Zaman received 875. Malgari Wakeelan’s Rafiq Mehmood won with 861 votes, while independent candidate Muhammad Saeed secured victory with 828 votes. Another Malgari Wakeelan candidate, Babar Khan Yousafzai, won with 792 votes.

The group continued its winning streak in other districts, including Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Karak.

Meanwhile, the People’s Lawyers Forum’s Saeed Hakeem won from Buner, while Hashmat secured a seat from Dera Ismail Khan. Jamiat Lawyers Forum candidates Fawad Khan and Waqar-ul-Mulk won their respective seats. The Muslim Lawyers Forum-supported candidate Muhammad Ali Khan won from Abbottabad, and Ikram Hussain of the Islamic Lawyers Forum was declared successful from Chitral. Independents Fida Gul Afridi and Muhammad Saeed were also among the prominent winners.

Based on province-wide results, Malgari Wakeelan have emerged with a clear lead in this year’s KP Bar Council elections, while rival forums managed limited gains.
