A special train carrying Sikh pilgrims departed from Karachi on Saturday to participate in the religious ceremonies marking the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.
The train, arranged by Pakistan Railways, left Karachi Cantt Station at 11:00 am and will reach Nankana Sahib on the morning of November 2 at around 8:30 am. The main celebrations will be held on November 5 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Nankana Sahib.
According to Pakistan Railways, the special service consists of 14 coaches, including 12 economy class coaches, one AC business coach and a power van. Nine coaches were attached at departure from Karachi, while five more will be added at Rohri and Larkana. A total of 950 Sikh yatrees are travelling on the train.
Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi extended his best wishes to the pilgrims and directed officials to ensure maximum facilities for them throughout the journey. He also instructed that foolproof security arrangements be maintained during travel.
“Minorities living in Pakistan enjoy complete religious freedom,” the minister stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of all religious communities.
The return of Sikh pilgrims will take place on November 6 via the same special service.
