Russian Embassy refutes ‘100% fake’ video alleging Putin threatened Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Russian Embassy has declared the viral social media video allegedly showing President Vladimir Putin threatening Pakistan as “100% fake.” The embassy clarified that President Putin made no remarks concerning Pakistan or Afghanistan.

According to the spokesperson, the video actually comes from a media interaction following the meeting of the Russian Geographical Society’s Board of Trustees on October 23, which was later edited and circulated with false claims.

In its statement, the embassy reaffirmed that Moscow supports a political and diplomatic resolution to Pak-Afghan differences and seeks the resumption of constructive dialogue between the two nations to enhance regional security and cooperation against terrorism.

Meanwhile, relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have further deteriorated amid recent border clashes and mutual accusations. A ceasefire was agreed in Doha after the October 11 border attack, but the Istanbul talks failed to yield any results.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the Afghan delegation tried to divert attention from the core issue during the talks, while Pakistan presented concrete evidence of terrorist activities. He added that Pakistan remains committed to peace, but the Afghan government continues to renege on its commitments, and Pakistan will take all possible measures to protect its citizens.
