Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of US crude oil under a new trade agreement between Islamabad and Washington, marking a significant milestone in bilateral energy cooperation.
According to a statement issued by refinery officials, a fully loaded US crude oil tanker arrived at the Cinergico Oil Terminal in Hub carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil. The shipment is the largest of its kind to reach Pakistan.
Refinery officials confirmed that the tanker, weighing 135,000 tonnes, is the biggest oil vessel ever to dock in the country.
The statement further noted that another US crude oil carrier is scheduled to arrive next month, as part of a series of shipments aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s energy supply chain.
The tanker, named Pegasus, departed from Houston on September 14 carrying the crude oil consignment for Pakistan.
Energy market observers say the development reflects growing trade cooperation between Pakistan and the United States and may help diversify Pakistan’s crude sourcing options in the global market.
