On the direction of the Prime Minister, Secretary Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) Amir Muhyuddin chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to address issues related to the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed. Secretaries of provincial agriculture and food departments, Director Generals Agriculture, and senior officers of MNFS&R attended the meeting.
It was highlighted that the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed was reportedly being hindered despite seed companies fulfilling all agreed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Provincial departments informed that all seed convoys with the requisite documents were being allowed to move and added that necessary instructions had been issued to food department authorities to facilitate movement on a priority basis.
A high-level supervisory committee, chaired by the Secretary MNFS&R, was constituted to meet every Wednesday to review the inter-provincial movement of wheat seed. It was further decided that the Federal Seed Certification & Registration Department (FSC&RD) will depute its officers at check-posts on all inter-provincial routes connecting Punjab with other provinces to assist food department officials in timely verification and facilitation of seed consignments.
