Indian film icons Rajinikanth and Dhanush received bomb threat emails allegedly claiming explosives had been planted at their residences, prompting Chennai Police to launch an investigation, officials said.
According to Tamil Nadu Police, two emails were sent to the State Director General of Police (DGP), warning that bombs had been placed at the homes of Rajinikanth and Dhanush. Following the alert, the Teynampet Police and Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to Rajinikanth’s residence to conduct a security check.
According to media reports, police officials said the first email was received at around 8:30am on Monday. Although authorities responded immediately, the actor’s security team reported no unusual activity or suspicious entry. Believing it to be a hoax, they declined assistance from the bomb squad.
A second email was received around 6:30pm the same day, but Rajinikanth’s team again refused a security sweep. Later, actor Dhanush also received a similar threat, but he too declined police support.
Police said that in recent weeks, several celebrities have been targeted with hoax bomb emails. The Cyber Crime Wing has begun tracing the source of the latest emails.
Sources said that earlier, on October 2, the DGP had received similar threat emails claiming that bombs were planted at the homes and offices of various VIPs, including actress Trisha Krishnan’s house in Teynampet and actor Shekhar’s residence in Mandaveli.
On October 9, police arrested a 37-year-old man for issuing a fake bomb threat targeting the residence of Tamilga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay. Authorities believe the latest case may also involve similar pranksters.
