Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to convene a “Peace Jirga” in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to develop a unified strategy for ending terrorism and ensuring lasting peace in the province.
The decision was taken in an important meeting of senior PTI leadership held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. The meeting was attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Provincial President Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser and other leaders.
During the meeting, the overall law and order situation in the province was reviewed in detail. It was agreed that a broad-based Peace Jirga will be convened, inviting former chief ministers, former governors, religious scholars, tribal elders, civil society representatives, lawyers, and other notable figures.
According to PTI leaders, the purpose of the jirga is to chalk out a joint and sustainable approach to eliminate terrorism and restore durable peace across the province.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that the tribal people joined Pakistan of their own free will and remain integral to the country. He added that modern equipment, capacity building, and resource support for the police remain top government priorities to strengthen security operations.
Earlier, while addressing a peace gathering in Bara, the chief minister said that objections had been raised over his nomination, but emphasized that rights of the merged districts must be ensured. He said the dues of the merged districts should be released without delay, adding, “We do not ask for charity; we demand our rightful share.”
He also announced that peace jirgas will be organized in every district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
