Shazia Marri denies any PPP–PML-N power-sharing deal in Balochistan

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Shazia Marri has denied reports suggesting that the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had agreed to share power in Balochistan on a rotational basis.

In a statement, Marri said there was no agreement regarding the formation of a PML-N government in the province. She added that important decisions related to the provincial development programme should not be made “behind closed doors.”

Marri further stated that the government’s legislative business in the National Assembly largely depends on PPP’s presence. “If PPP members do not attend the assembly session, even the quorum cannot be completed,” she remarked.

She confirmed that when PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif sought PPP’s support for becoming Prime Minister, certain political understandings were reached. However, she emphasized that those understandings did not include any arrangement for transferring the provincial government in Balochistan.

The PPP leader added that during a recent consultative meeting, party members expressed concerns regarding the coalition government’s performance. In response, former President Asif Ali Zardari assured that commitments made with PPP would be honoured.

Her remarks come amid ongoing speculation that PPP and PML-N had agreed to govern Balochistan on a two-and-a-half-year rotational basis. While some PML-N lawmakers say they were informed of such an arrangement, PPP leadership has consistently rejected the claim, stating that the party intends to complete its full five-year term in the province.
