Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were allegedly molested by a motorcycle-rider while walking from their hotel to a café in Indore during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on October 23.
According to local police, the incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when the players, who were staying at a hotel ahead of their fixture, were approached by a man riding a motorcycle. The accused reportedly touched one of the players inappropriately and then fled. A complaint was lodged by the Australian team’s security manager, and a case was registered under relevant sections of the law.
Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) termed the incident “very unfortunate” and expressed appreciation for the swift response by the police, who later arrested the suspect.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety and security arrangements for foreign sports delegations currently in India. Authorities are now reviewing how the security protocols were bypassed and what adjustments are required to prevent similar incidents.
As Australia continues its Women’s World Cup campaign in India, security measures for the team are expected to be strengthened, making the issue a key focus in the broader debate surrounding visitor safety during major international sporting events.
