Following the recent proscription of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) by the federal government, a comprehensive security screening of the security personnel and other staff of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has begun.
According to police sources, the screening covers all security staff stationed at Maryam Nawaz’s residence in Jati Umra as well as those deployed at the Chief Minister’s Office. The exercise aims to determine whether any personnel have links to the banned organisation.
Officials confirmed that the process is not limited to security personnel alone; other staff members associated with both locations are also being checked. Any individual found to have ties with the banned group will be immediately removed from their duties.
The screening follows the federal cabinet’s approval of a ban on TLP under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997. Authorities say the move is part of a broader review and security tightening process across the province after recent actions taken against the group.
Law-enforcement officials added that similar screening and vetting exercises are also being carried out for other sensitive government offices and public officials.
