Islamabad High Court to hear plea seeking ban on Imran Khan’s X account

2 min read

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled for hearing a petition seeking the closure of former prime minister and PTI founding chairman Imran Khan’s account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The case will be heard on November 4, according to the cause list issued by the court’s Registrar Office. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir will preside over the hearing.

Earlier, the IHC had issued notices to Imran Khan, calling for a response to the allegations raised in the petition. Notices have also been sent to the National Cyber Crime Agency, the Superintendent of the Jail, and other relevant parties to submit their replies.

The petition was filed by a citizen, Ghulam Murtaza, through Barrister Zafarullah. It seeks the removal and blocking of what the petitioner claims are “illegal and malicious” posts made from Imran Khan’s X account. The plea argues that certain posts are being shared while Khan is under detention, and alleges that they are “provocative” and could create unrest.

The petitioner has requested the court to direct authorities to stop the dissemination of such content and take necessary action to prevent further circulation of the posts.

The case will determine whether Khan’s social media communications can be restricted under current legal and regulatory frameworks.
