The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has declared several flood-affected areas as calamity-hit, issuing formal notifications for relief and rehabilitation measures. According to a PDMA spokesperson, 72 tehsils across 27 districts have been notified as disaster-affected, based on damage assessments at the village level.
The notification was issued jointly by the Punjab Board of Revenue and PDMA under the Punjab National Calamities Prevention and Relief Act, 1958. Areas with more than 50 percent recorded damage have been classified as calamity-affected.
Under the notification, district administrations have been directed to expedite rescue, relief, and early rehabilitation activities. Authorities have also been instructed to complete assessment of financial losses to affected families at the earliest.
Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, said that monitoring teams have been formed on the direction of the Punjab Relief Commissioner to oversee relief operations. He added that no land revenue or irrigation charges will be collected from farmers in the affected regions during the current Kharif season.
Kathia stated that PDMA and district governments will initiate projects to restore damaged infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, schools, health facilities, and homes. Farmers whose crops or livestock suffered losses may receive concessions, deferment, or relaxation in agricultural loans.
He added that Chief Minister Punjab has directed that relief camps be fully operational to support displaced and affected families.
