A special anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has ordered the seizure of the national identity card and passport of Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, after she repeatedly failed to appear before the court in a protest-related case.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Anti-Terrorism Court issued the order during proceedings concerning 11 accused in connection with the November 26, 2023 protest. Despite non-bailable arrest warrants already issued against her, Aleema Khan once again did not attend the hearing.
The court observed that while Aleema Khan has been visibly active in public and media circles, she has continued to avoid court appearances. In response, the judge directed authorities to confiscate her travel and identification documents to ensure compliance.
This is the fourth time the Rawalpindi ATC has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan in the same case. During Thursday’s hearing, ten of the eleven accused were present, highlighting her continued absence.
The case revolves around a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protest that took place on November 26 last year, which led to clashes with security personnel in Islamabad’s Red Zone. The ATC is proceeding against several individuals on charges linked to the unrest.
Despite instructions, law-enforcement authorities have not yet carried out her arrest, prompting questions about the implementation of court directives.
