Rawalpindi Police have arrested a fugitive wanted for the honour killing of a 19-year-old girl two years ago in the Jatli area. The suspect, who had been on the run since the crime, was captured following a special operation.
According to a police spokesperson on Thursday, the accused had shot and killed his niece after she married a man of her own choice. The victim was allegedly lured home under the pretext of reconciliation before being murdered.
After the killing, the suspect went into hiding. On the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, special teams were formed to trace and arrest him. Using technical and human intelligence, Jatli Police, assisted by a dedicated team, successfully located and apprehended the fugitive.
CPO Hamdani praised the efforts of the SP Saddar Division, SDPO Gujar Khan, and the police teams involved in the arrest. He said that the detained suspect would be presented in court with solid evidence to ensure strict legal punishment.
“Crimes against women are intolerable, and those involved will not escape the grip of the law,” the police spokesperson added.
