Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has formally responded to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the pending handover of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, ACC sources confirmed.
According to ACC insiders, the BCCI had earlier written a letter to Mohsin Naqvi requesting to receive the Asia Cup trophy, which India won but never officially collected after the final match.
Sources said that in his reply, Naqvi advised the Indian board to receive the trophy through a formal ceremony, suggesting that “if they wanted the trophy, they should organize or attend an official event to collect it.”
The ACC president further proposed November 10 as the date for the trophy handover, informing the BCCI that the ceremony could be arranged on that day.
As per the communication, Indian board officials may attend the event along with one player to receive the trophy on behalf of the team, sources added.
The controversy stems from the Asia Cup 2025 final, in which India emerged as champions but declined to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, reportedly due to political tensions between the two countries. Following the incident, Naqvi sent the trophy back to the ACC headquarters.
Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi had remarked that “if the Indian captain wants the trophy, he can come to my office and collect it,” in response to what he described as BCCI’s unnecessary rigidity over the issue.
The ACC’s latest move appears aimed at closing the matter through formal diplomatic and sporting protocol, though it remains to be seen whether the BCCI will accept the proposed arrangement.
