Pakistan has suffered economic losses amounting to Rs822 billion due to the recent devastating floods that swept across the country, affecting more than 6.5 million people in 70 districts, according to official documents from the Planning and Economic Affairs Division.
The report states that agriculture and infrastructure were the hardest-hit sectors, as torrential monsoon rains caused widespread destruction to homes, roads, and farmlands.
Government data reveals that 229,763 houses were damaged, including 59,258 completely destroyed and 170,505 partially affected. The disaster also resulted in the deaths of 1,037 people and injuries to 1,067 others.
Officials said the revised damage estimate marks a sharp increase from the initial projection of Rs744 billion, highlighting the scale of devastation across affected regions.
The report describes the floods as among the worst monsoon disasters in Pakistan’s history, causing severe disruptions to infrastructure, livelihoods, and essential public services.
Authorities are now working with provincial governments and international partners to assess rehabilitation needs and mobilize recovery resources.
