Rawalpindi’s health authorities have announced the successful completion of the first day of the city’s anti-polio campaign, achieving a major milestone with 989,924 children targeted for vaccination.

According to the District Health Department Rawalpindi, vaccination teams managed to administer polio drops to 272,696 children across various areas. As part of the door-to-door campaign, health workers visited 207,427 households, completing 88 percent of the assigned target on the first day.

Officials said that 54,343 children could not be vaccinated during the initial round, out of which 28,628 were later covered. Around 25,715 children are yet to receive the vaccine and will be prioritized in the coming days to ensure full coverage.

In addition to household visits, 35,418 schoolchildren were vaccinated, while 16,856 guest children, those not originally registered in the area also received the drops.

A spokesperson for the District Health Department said that anti-dengue and anti-polio efforts are being carried out simultaneously, and citizens are urged to follow precautionary measures to support the city’s health initiatives.

The ongoing campaign is part of the federal government’s nationwide effort to eradicate polio, a disease that continues to pose a challenge in parts of Pakistan.
