Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) hosted two high-level parliamentary delegations from Türkiye and Azerbaijan at its National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) in Islamabad on Monday.
The Turkish parliamentary delegation was led by the Honourable Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, H.E. Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmuş, while the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, along with accompanying officials. Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, accompanied both delegations to the National Emergencies Operations Center.
Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, welcomed the distinguished guests and briefed them on Pakistan’s proactive disaster management framework. He highlighted NDMA’s central coordination role and its integration of advanced technologies in early warning systems, preparedness planning, and emergency response operations.
The NDMA team presented key initiatives aimed at enhancing national and regional resilience, including the development of the National Common Operating Picture (NCOP) and the Global Common Operating Picture (GCOP). These platforms utilize satellite data and international hazard models to enable real-time risk profiling and informed decision-making. The delegation was also briefed on NDMA’s proactive efforts to promote regional collaboration through knowledge exchange, workshops, Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises (CISE), and capacity-building programs.
The visiting dignitaries were informed about NDMA’s recent achievements during the Monsoon 2025 operations, including the Disaster Early Warning (DEW) system, public risk awareness campaigns, the timely evacuation of over three million people at risk, and coordinated relief and recovery efforts in affected areas.
Both delegations commended NDMA’s strategic use of technology, its commitment to resilience-building, and its leadership in strengthening national preparedness. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction, capacity development, and mutual support during natural calamities.
The visit underscored the growing trilateral collaboration between Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan in addressing the shared challenges of climate change and disaster management. It reflected a spirit of solidarity and mutual trust among friendly nations working together to safeguard communities and build a safer, more resilient future.
