Pakistan, Afghanistan play goalless draw in AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier

1 min read

Pakistan and Afghanistan played out a 0-0 draw in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier match held at the Pakistan Sports Board Football Stadium in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The encounter marked an important step for both sides in their qualification campaigns for the Asian Cup to be hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2027.

Pakistan showed commendable energy and control throughout the match, creating several scoring chances, but were unable to convert. The first half ended goalless, with both teams struggling to find the finishing touch.

In the second half, Pakistan earned a penalty kick, but forward Obaid Khan failed to capitalize as his shot went off target — a moment that could have secured a home victory for the Green Shirts.

Both sides maintained strong defensive structures till the final whistle, with Afghanistan also missing a late opportunity to score.

The second-leg qualifier between Pakistan and Afghanistan will take place on October 14 in Kuwait, where both teams will be hoping to register their first win in the campaign.
