Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in preventing and combating corruption.
The MoU was signed and exchanged by Deputy Chairman NAB, Mr. Sohail Nasir, and Chief Commissioner of MACC, Mr. Azam Bin Baki.
The signing ceremony took place on October 6, 2025, in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, and was witnessed by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The MoU aims to promote mutual assistance, joint capacity building, and technical cooperation between the two countries’ anti-corruption bodies. The collaboration will enhance technical assistance in operational activities and foster joint efforts in tackling corruption.
Under the agreement, both sides will exchange information on legislative developments and community education programs to raise public awareness about corruption prevention. The partnership also seeks to strengthen public participation and improve human resource capacity through professional training, exchange of expertise, and sharing of experiences.
In view of global challenges such as corruption, money laundering, and cross-border financial crimes, the MoU will help both nations coordinate efforts to curb illicit financial flows, strengthen legal frameworks, and align with international conventions. Both Pakistan and Malaysia are signatories to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), underscoring their shared commitment to transparency and accountability.
This MoU on anti-corruption cooperation is one of six agreements signed between Pakistan and Malaysia during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Malaysia.
