Pakistan is actively engaged with international partners to ensure the safety and prompt repatriation of its nationals who were detained by Israeli occupying forces after participating in the Sumud flotilla, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.
Responding to media inquiries, the Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad is currently in Israeli custody but is safe and in good health. The confirmation came through diplomatic channels of a friendly European country.
The statement added that, in accordance with local legal procedures, Senator Mushtaq will be presented before a court, after which his deportation and repatriation will be facilitated on a fast-track basis.
The Ministry noted that it had earlier coordinated the safe return of other individuals who disembarked from the flotilla before the incident. “In this context, we express our profound gratitude to the brotherly countries that assisted in the repatriation of our citizens,” the spokesperson said.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad, the Foreign Office said the government anticipates the completion of the repatriation process within the coming days.
