Stray dogs have taken over the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in India’s capital, raising serious concerns about safety and management during the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships.
According to Indian media reports, stray dogs attacked two foreign officials during the event. Kenya’s coach, Dennis Mwanzo, and Japan’s assistant coach, Miku Otomatsu, were both injured after being bitten by dogs inside the stadium premises.
The incident sparked outrage among participants and raised questions about the preparedness of the organizers. This was the fifth reported dog attack since the start of the championship.
Earlier, a security guard and two Indian citizens were also attacked by stray dogs in and around the stadium. Reports say that three of the attacks took place within just 30 minutes, highlighting the extent of the problem.
Event officials are facing criticism from athletes and foreign delegations for failing to ensure basic safety measures at one of India’s largest sporting venues.
Authorities have reportedly begun efforts to remove stray animals from the premises, but concerns remain about the impact such incidents could have on India’s reputation as an international sports host.
