Pakistan-Central Asia trade rises to $2.41 Billion in FY2025

2 min read

Pakistan’s trade with Central Asian states, Afghanistan, and Azerbaijan grew significantly in the fiscal year 2024–25, reaching $2.41 billion compared to $1.92 billion in the previous year. The surge reflects a renewed momentum in regional economic ties, with both exports and imports showing upward trends.

According to official data, Pakistan’s exports to these countries rose to $1.77 billion in FY2025, up from $1.34 billion a year earlier. Imports also climbed to $641 million, compared to $581 million in FY2024.

Afghanistan remained Pakistan’s largest trading partner in the region, with exports increasing to $1.39 billion and imports to $612.5 million. Kazakhstan emerged as another key partner, with Pakistani exports rising to $250.8 million. Exports to Uzbekistan stood at $91.4 million, while imports from the country were limited to $20.3 million.

Trade with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan remained relatively modest but steady.
The regional trade outlook highlights both opportunities and challenges for Pakistan. While Central Asian states collectively recorded trade worth $318.01 billion with the rest of the world in FY2024, Pakistan’s share was still less than $0.5 billion. Meanwhile, transit trade through Pakistan reached $410 million in FY2025, indicating growing reliance of regional countries on Pakistani corridors.

Experts noted that while the current growth is encouraging, Pakistan’s real potential lies in building direct overland links and strategic trade routes with the Central Asian bloc. A report by Wealth Pakistan stressed that enhanced connectivity could enable Pakistan to play a more effective role in accessing the region’s vast markets.
