Punjab Assembly tables bill to increase compensation for terror victims

2 min read

The Punjab Assembly has introduced the Terrorism-Affected Citizens Relief (Amendment) Bill 2025, proposing a significant increase in compensation for citizens killed or injured in terrorist incidents.

Under the proposed amendments, the financial assistance for families of citizens martyred in terrorist attacks would rise from the existing Rs1 million to Rs2.5 million. Compensation for injured citizens would also be doubled, increasing from Rs500,000 to Rs1 million.

The bill, presented in the provincial assembly by lawmaker Ayaz Ahmed during the latest session, emphasizes that rising inflation and increasing living costs have made the current level of support inadequate. The draft states that the revised package should be implemented immediately to ensure timely relief for affected families.

Following its presentation, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly referred the bill to the relevant standing committee for further examination and recommendations.

If passed, the amendment will mark one of the most substantial upward revisions in financial support for terrorism victims in recent years, reflecting the provincial government’s recognition of the economic challenges faced by families coping with tragedy.
