Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik on Thursday to finalize the formulation and implementation of the National Resilience Plan 2025–2026. The initiative is designed to strengthen preparedness for the upcoming 2026 monsoon season and mitigate the destruction caused by natural disasters.
Dr. Musadik Malik said the National Resilience Plan must be outcome-focused, with concrete strategies aimed at reducing losses in human lives, infrastructure, crops and livestock. He stressed that a robust mechanism is needed to ensure tangible benefits for vulnerable communities most at risk from climate-induced disasters.
Chairman NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, underscored the importance of identifying vulnerable regions across Pakistan and assessing their exposure to specific risks, such as floods, cloudbursts, glacial melt, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), and landslides. He noted that disaster preparedness and response must be tailored to localized risks to build long-term resilience.
The Climate Minister also pointed out weaknesses in the existing disaster response system, describing it as fragmented and in need of integration into a streamlined framework that is fast, coordinated and effective. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with NDMA and all stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive national disaster management strategy ahead of future climate challenges.
