Pakistan is planning to prepare spin-friendly pitches for the upcoming two-Test home series against South Africa, sources confirmed on Monday.
The series will also mark Pakistan’s first outing in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
Spin to play key role in Tests
According to sources, the preparation of the Gaddafi Stadium pitch in Lahore will begin tomorrow after the conclusion of the ongoing women’s series. Similarly, a helpful surface for spinners is also planned at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Both pitches are expected to be prepared in consultation with Director High Performance Aqib Javed and Assistant Coach Azhar Mahmood.
Test squad announcement expected soon
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce the national Test squad by the end of this week. To gear up for the South Africa series, a training camp will start on September 30, where players will focus on adapting to conditions expected to aid spin bowling.
Schedule of Test series
The much-anticipated series will begin with the first Test match at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on October 12, followed by the second Test at Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium on October 20.
