PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi held a meeting with the newly appointed US Consul General in Peshawar, Thomas Eckert, at the Governor House on Wednesday.

Governor Kundi congratulated Eckert on his new assignment and expressed hope that his posting would further strengthen Pak-US relations. The two discussed matters of mutual interest, people-to-people contacts, and cooperation in various sectors.

Highlighting investment opportunities, the Governor briefed the Consul General on the province’s rich natural resources and stressed the need for US support in agriculture, energy, and youth development.

“Pakistan and the United States share a long history of bilateral relations,” Kundi said, adding that “we value America’s development partnership in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

He urged the US to expand its cooperation in the merged tribal districts, especially by investing in youth initiatives. “Our young people possess exceptional talent, particularly in sports, and we want to promote them in all fields with the support of our development partners,” he noted.

The Governor also underlined challenges faced by the province, including terrorism and climate change, and emphasized the urgent need to focus on the agricultural sector in southern districts. “By cultivating millions of acres of barren land, we can bring about an agricultural revolution,” he added.

US Consul General Thomas Eckert thanked the Governor for his warm welcome and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and joint projects in multiple sectors.
