
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with Luke Mayers, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian High Commission, to discuss Pakistan’s ongoing flood crisis and areas of bilateral cooperation.
According to the press statement of the Ministry on Wednesday, Luke Mayers, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian High Commission expressed deep empathy and solidarity with the people of Pakistan over the loss of lives and destruction caused by the recent floods.
During the meeting, Dr. Malik informed Mayers that nearly 3.6 million people have been displaced. He said that while relief operations are underway and showing progress, the real challenge lies ahead in addressing widespread devastation that will surface once floodwaters recede.
The discussions also touched on the impact of floods on food security. Both sides examined matters related to food regulations, trade opportunities, and the potential use of GMO seeds to strengthen agricultural resilience.
Dr. Malik also highlighted his Ministry’s efforts to digitize the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He said the goal is to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure transparency in environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.
Both Pakistan and Canada reaffirmed their commitment to work together on climate resilience, food security, and sustainable development. They also agreed to explore more avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
