KARACHI: Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai has approached a New Delhi court against multiple artificial intelligence (AI) platforms for allegedly misusing her photos, videos, and voice to create obscene and fake content.
According to media reports, Rai’s legal team has filed a joint petition urging the court to stop online platforms from using her name, likeness, and voice through deepfake technology for sexually explicit AI-generated videos. The petition argues that such unauthorized use not only violates her rights but also amounts to character assassination.
Her lawyers have also submitted a list of fake and pornographic websites misusing her name, along with e-commerce websites allegedly selling products under her identity without consent.
The court has issued notices to all concerned parties, asking them to present arguments by November 2025. A formal hearing on the case is expected to begin in January 2026.
Significantly, Rai has not yet filed any damages claim against the platforms but is seeking a ban on unauthorized use of her image, videos, and voice.
The case highlights growing concerns in India over the misuse of AI-powered deepfake technology, which has increasingly been weaponized to target public figures, particularly women in the entertainment industry.
