ISLAMABAD: The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) of the NDMA has issued a flash flood and urban flooding alert for parts of Punjab and Islamabad, warning of heavy rains between September 7 and 9.
According to the alert, intense rainfall may trigger urban flooding in Murree, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, and Sargodha. There is also a strong likelihood of flooding in nullahs and streams in these areas.
In southern Punjab including Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, low-lying areas face a serious risk of inundation. The NDMA warned that previously flood-hit districts could witness further worsening of the situation.
Rescue teams and relevant departments have been placed on high alert. The NDMA advised residents in flood-prone localities to stay aware of safe evacuation routes, shift valuable belongings and livestock to higher ground, and keep an emergency kit ready with dry food, drinking water, and medicines.
Citizens were urged to avoid crossing submerged roads and bridges, and to adopt strict preventive measures against potential waterborne diseases. The authority stressed that people must follow the guidelines of local administration in case of emergencies.
