KARACHI: Rising Pakistani actress Maria Malik has spoken candidly about the challenges women face in the entertainment industry, including harassment, during a recent interview on a YouTube channel.
Reflecting on her early years in showbiz, Maria shared that when she first entered the industry three years ago, she wanted to play lead roles but was often offered supporting characters. She said that rejecting those offers sometimes resulted in “strange behavior” from production houses.
When asked if the industry is safe for women, Maria replied, “The industry is safe in some places and unsafe in others. Nothing has happened to me personally, so I can’t say much, but I’ve heard of harassment cases. That’s why I feel the industry is not entirely safe.”
She further noted that the rise of social media has made people more cautious about misconduct, yet concerns still remain. To avoid uncomfortable situations, Maria said she prefers to focus solely on her work and limit unnecessary social interactions.
