LAHORE: Australia’s star fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from T20 internationals to focus on Test and ODI cricket, Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday.
The left-arm pacer, who has been a mainstay of Australia’s bowling attack, played 65 T20Is and claimed 79 wickets. In his farewell note, Starc said: “Test cricket has always been my top priority. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of T20 cricket, but it’s time to channel my focus.”
Cricket Australia has already announced the squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand in his absence. Captain Pat Cummins will also not feature in the series as part of a management plan.
Starc’s decision marks the end of an era for Australia’s T20 side, though he will continue to play a vital role in Tests and ODIs.
